General Questions

What services does L.A.U.R.A provide?

L.A.U.R.A provides comprehensive support services including victim support programs, youth leadership development, community resource fairs, crisis response, monthly support groups, funeral assistance, and guidance navigating legal and social service systems. We focus on holistic care to address both immediate needs and long-term healing.

Who is eligible for L.A.U.R.A's programs?

Our services are available to anyone affected by violence in South Central Los Angeles, including victims' family members, youth ages 12-24, and community members seeking resources and support. We serve individuals at any stage of recovery and work to ensure everyone has access to the tools they need for healing and empowerment.

Where are you located, and how can I access your services?

We are based in South Central Los Angeles with our main operations at Fred Roberts Recreation Center (4701 S Central Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90011). Services are available through weekly meetings, scheduled appointments, and community events. You can visit us during office hours, call for assistance, or attend our monthly support groups and youth meetings.

Victim Support Services

What support do you offer to families of homicide victims?

We provide comprehensive support including crisis response at crime scenes, emotional support groups, funeral assistance, guidance navigating victim compensation programs, legal system navigation help, and long-term emotional support. Our team walks alongside families throughout their healing journey.

When are your support group meetings?

Our victim support groups meet every last Thursday of each month at 6:00 PM at 4701 S. Central Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90011. These meetings provide a safe space for families to share, mourn, and support each other through their grief journey.

Do you provide financial assistance?

Yes, we offer limited financial assistance for funeral costs, emergency needs, and essential expenses through our emergency fund. We also help families navigate the California Victims Compensation Program to access available state resources.

Youth Programs

What youth programs does L.A.U.R.A offer?

Our L.A.U.R.A Youth program includes weekly meetings, leadership development, college preparation, job readiness training, mental health support, summer camps, community service projects, sports activities, and creative arts programs. We focus on empowerment, education, and creating positive alternatives to violence.

When are youth meetings held?

Youth meetings are held every Thursday at Fred Roberts Recreation Center. Community Civic Engagement meetings start at 5:00 PM, followed by general youth meetings at 6:30 PM. All youth ages 12-24 are welcome to participate.

Can youth earn community service hours?

Yes, participants in our youth program can earn community service hours for school requirements through various activities including event volunteering, community clean-ups, peer support, and outreach initiatives.
